            BREEZY HILL FARM WEEKLY UPDATE

  • We were sitting near a table of three people at Panera's today. There were two women and a young boy. (We were on our way to Columbia to help celebrate a granddaughter's third birthday.)   The younger woman was doing all the talking, and after hearing a few key words we started paying closer attention.  She was telling them all about the safety of GMO's.  We learned that GMO's are just like hybridization (typical talking point by Big AG), but this took the cake.  "You know if you cross an Angus (beef cow) with a another breed you will have a genetically modified animal."   She said there is no safety issue with GMO's.  She had a large soda and was at least 60-70 pounds overweight.  Of course, High Fructose Corn Syrup is not a safety issue either, except ... .
  • Had our fryers processed this past Saturday.  Wow, that extra couple of weeks sure made a difference.  Ours weighed about 8 pounds.  They were so big we had to cut them into individual meals.  That was a lot of chicken.  Remember, the bigger the bird, the better the deal.  Our drumsticks (bones) weren't much bigger than a three pounder's .
  • We took two beeves in for processing this past week.  Plan to take two more this week.  Things are starting to move on beef harvesting.

Another Independent Study Confirms Monsanto’s RoundUp Chemicals are Lethal, Even in Small Doses.  It’s rather technical, but you may have a friend that needs to be convinced of the dangers.

Interesting presentation on Farm to Table.  Klaus and Mary Martens were speakers at an ACRES conference we attended several years ago.  http://fora.tv/2014/09/29/local_food_beyond_farm_to_table?utm_source=ForaSiteMaster&utm_campaign=61de8e4ad9-Newsletter_10_8_14&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_de23702f3b-61de8e4ad9-295712557

Tenacity can be a virtue, but the persistent push by giant food conglomerates to deceive us consumers has turned their tenacity into raw mendacity. http://jimhightower.com/node/8452#.VDcjTGddXE0
