Breezy Hill Update Jul 17, 2016

            BREEZY HILL FARM WEEKLY UPDATE

  • We had a successful ground beef pick up this past Saturday.  Over 800 pounds are now in our customers' home freezers.  The longest drive was from Marceline, MO, Walt Disney's hometown.  That was 2 hours and 15 minutes, ONE WAY.  Thanks to all our valued supporters.  We strive to provide the best product at a price comparable to the commodity beef at the local grocery store.  We know that grass finished beef at Whole Foods, Natural Grocers, etc is around $9.00 per pound.  We thought we had a better than normal yield on this harvest and lowered our price from $5.25 to $5.  Turns out the processor may have shorted me 50 pounds.  At least for now one box is missing.  It was box number 13.  Maybe someone was superstitious and skipped that number like they used to do in high rise hotels.  No floor was numbered thirteen.  Hopefully, they will find the box or have a plausible explanation.  If not, I will need to go back to the $5.25.
  • We have a family milk cow available.  I thought she was spoken for, but that didn't happen.
  • USDA's average retail price for beef is at $6.15.  Our freezer beef, grass finished, is still under that.
  • We hatched about twenty guineas.  We need about a dozen to add to our flock.  Anyone interested in getting a start??
  • We have two large tractor tires that make great raised beds for gardening.  We keep ours full of onions.  If interested let me know.  If you're not too far away we can deliver.
  • We have started a new list for ground beef.  We will be harvesting another this fall.
  • Also, we have a list started for "Dirt Hogs".  One of my contacts will have two or three ready in about two weeks.
  • One more peach tree to pick, blackberries, sweet corn and soon raspberries.  Thanks to the recent 6 inches of rain, the grass is very green for mid July.

Vitamin K2 Deficiency Is a Significant Cause of Cardiovascular Disease

While vitamin D helps you absorb calcium, vitamin K2 directs your body to deposit the calcium in the appropriate places. In other words, it's the vitamin K2 that tells your body to deposit calcium in your bones and teeth, and not in your organs, arteries, muscles or soft tissue. An effective analogy is that vitamin D is your gatekeeper, allowing the admission of calcium, and vitamin K2 is the traffic cop, telling the calcium where to go. With vitamin D and calcium you'll have the traffic, but without vitamin K2 you'll have a traffic jam and calcium being deposited exactly where you don't want it — in your arteries. http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2016/07/13/vitamin-k2-deficiency-cardiovascular-disease.aspx?utm_source=dnl&utm_medium=email&utm_content=art2&utm_campaign=20160713Z1&et_cid=DM110792&et_rid=1571631440
